I joined Katie Wells on the Wellness Mama podcast for a conversation about fertility, preconception health, and the powerful opportunity to influence the health of future generations before conception ever occurs.

For years, I have worked with individuals and couples who have been told that their age, diagnosis, or fertility challenges leave them with few options. Yet time and again, I have seen what can happen when we address the underlying factors affecting reproductive health.

Many women, including those in their forties who were told they were infertile, have gone on to conceive naturally and have healthy pregnancies after taking a deeper, root-cause approach.

During this conversation, Katie and I explored the growing fertility crisis and the often-overlooked contributors driving it. While age certainly plays a role, fertility is influenced by far more than chronological age alone. Environmental toxins, nutrient deficiencies, mitochondrial dysfunction, inflammation, metabolic health, stress, sleep, and other lifestyle factors all affect the health of both eggs and sperm.

We also discussed the science behind my book, The Preconception Revolution, and why I believe preconception care represents one of the greatest opportunities we have to improve not only fertility outcomes, but the lifelong health of our children.

In this episode, we discuss:

  • Why I wrote The Preconception Revolution and what inspired this work
  • What fertility challenges can reveal about overall health
  • Why declining fertility rates cannot be explained by age alone
  • Key nutrients that support healthy eggs, sperm, pregnancy, and fetal development
  • How environmental toxins can affect fertility and long-term child health
  • The role of epigenetics and how parental health influences future generations
  • How toxin exposure may impact both a baby’s health and their future fertility
  • The effects of plastics and endocrine-disrupting chemicals on reproductive health
  • Common and often overlooked sources of plastic exposure
  • Hidden sources of PFAS and other persistent environmental toxins
  • Why mitochondrial health is foundational for fertility and healthy aging
  • Practical strategies to reduce toxic burden and support reproductive health before conception

I hope this conversation helps you better understand that fertility is not simply a matter of chance or age. It is often a reflection of overall health, and there is much more within our control than many people realize.
