BBQ Huli Huli Chicken is a traditional Hawaiian dish that you don’t have to travel to Hawaii for!

Made with organic chicken, pineapple, and sweet honey with fresh grated ginger, chili flakes and coconut aminos combine for a sweet and savory dish that is sure to please the whole family. Gluten-free, dairy-free, and paleo friendly.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 lb chicken thighs (organic pasture-raised)
  • ½ cup coconut aminos
  • ¼ cup fresh orange juice or pineapple juice
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 2 tsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/8 tsp chili flakes
  • 2 tsp tapioca flour
  • Green onions
  • 1 red onion, quartered
  • Pineapple slices, optional

 

INSTRUCTIONS

Heat coconut aminos, orange juice, honey, ginger, garlic and chili flakes in a sauce pan. Stir in tapioca flour. Heat over medium heat until slightly thickened. Remove from heat and let reach room temperature. In a large ziplock bag add chicken with sauce and coat. Seal bag and place in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours. Heat up barbecue and add chicken thighs on high heat. Also add red onion and pineapple if using.

Continue to flip chicken until nicely charred and cooked through. Remove everything off the barbecue, slice chicken and serve garnished with green onions. Enjoy!
